London-British Museum-Gold Watch55

1635 Small, plain watches like this are now called Puritan watches. They contrast with the highly decorative, jewelled watches popular in the mid 1600s. This example is rare because it is gold, rather than silver. It is said to have been owned by Oliver Cromwell and came to the museum in 1786.
