Early Byzantine, 6th C. Gold (BZ.1958.26) The garbled inscription "DNANASTRVIST" on this pseudo-medallion preculeds a firm identification with the emperor Anastasius. The intricate loop-in-loop chains are affixed to coins representing the emperors Zeno and Anastasius at the clasp.
