Vatican Manuscripts Added Week 24 of 2023

Only seventeen manuscripts were digitized this week. Due to the small sample set, determining any patterns is unreliable, but Barb.lat and Vat.ar were the top contributors with four each, Ott.lat added three, Barb.gr and Vat.lat added two and one each from Ross and Vat.turc

The image to the right is some 19th C illumination, which is always a bit of a hash, from the title page of Caesaris Balbo's oration for the Sacerdotal Jubilee of Pope Leo XIII, given on February 28, 1849. It was, according to the title page, presented in the Parlemento Subalpino, part of the legislature of the Kingdom of Sardinia which met in Turin. The manuscript is now shelved as Vat.lat.10461, and this page is f.2r

At the bottom is a line of a later addition to Ott.lat.314, found on f.95r. This text is the Mass for Visitation, starting with the introit change Gaudemus omnes. The line of text is the later prayer in the Mass, Omnipotens sempiterne Deus.
