How many manuscripts were added this week is a more complex question than usual. It was discovered on monday that the main listing page for the Vat.lat collection was loading too slowly for the system, which was timing out and not capturing the new manuscripts in this, the largest fond in the library, and had been failing in this way for seven weeks. Code was updated to increase the timeout to 90 (!!) seconds, and the 91 missed manuscripts from those weeks were added in. In addition to those, twenty-four manuscripts were digitized, yielding a total of 115 new volumes tracked here for the first time.

From those twenty-four, the plurality came from Ott.lat, adding eleven. Five more came from Barb.lat, two each from Chig and Vat.lat (additional to the massive collection) and one each from Barb.gr, Borg.lat, and Capp.Sist.

To the right is f.51r from Borg.lat.339, an 11th C Lectionary from the region of Istria, modernly on the border between Italy and Croatia on the Dalmatian coast. The area was under the influence of the Beneventan practice, and so this manuscript is in Beneventan minuscule, with Beneventan-style neumes, however is is Gregorian, not Beneventan chant. The page here contains the text from Luke 3, describing the baptism of Jesus, and a rather angry Ox inhabits the top of the interlace initial 'I'

At the bottom is part of the text block from f.77v of Ott.lat.330, a 14th C Pontificale from Avignon. Despite the english cognate, the Pontificale was not a book specifically for the Pope, but a manual of rituals for a Bishop, including services like blessing the holy water and ordinations. This particular manuscript has some square-note neumes in it, though some of the staves are blank
