And we're back in the swing of things with sixty-one manuscripts digitized in the past week. A wide spread of collections this week, with nineteen coming from Vat.lat, thirteen from Ott.lat, eleven from Barb.lat and 10 from Chig. A further three came from a rare fond, Vat.estr.or, two from Santa Maria Maggiore, and one each from Vat.gr, Borg.cin, and Bonc, with the last another volume of the massive twelve-volume missal.

At the right is the title page of Ott.lat.1394, an early 16th C copy of Jests by Piovano Arlotto. This is f.1r in the manuscript, but due to odd foliation, it's the second f.1r. His humor was recorded and well known enough to feature in a painting nearly 130 years later than this manuscript by Baldassare Franceschini

At the bottom is part of S.Maria.Magg.112, a fifteenth-century missal of Roman Use. Despite this being f.7r, it is the first page of true text in the manuscript, ff.1r-6v are the liturgical calendar that often precedes a Missal. Interestingly the calendar does not give special precedence to the August 5th feast of Dedicatio Sanctae Mariae ad Nives, the dedication of Santa Maria Maggiore. Perhaps this manuscript was made for another church, before arriving at the current location.
