Due to the Feast of the Annunciation on the 23th, the Vatican only digitized thirteen manuscripts this week. As per recent trends, the bulk of these, nine in total, came from the Barb.lat collection. The rest were evenly split, two each, between Comb and Ott.lat
To the right is f.1r from Barb.lat.709, a 14th C copy of several works by St. Augustine(of Hippo, not any of the other Saints Augustine of whom there are several). This is, per the small rubric crunched up at the right hand side of the left column, De Trinitate. This page is interesting visually because the text, the large illuminated initial D, and even the puzzlework L in the right column are all part of a 14th C manuscript. The elaborate decorative bands at top and bottom, including the arms of the House of Montefeltro, however, we added sometime in the 15th C.
At the bottom is a line of Ge'ez text from p.5 of Comb.B.25, a 19th or 20th C copy of The Anaphora of Mary. An Anaphora is a type of supplicative prayer included in the Eucharist. In this case it invokes Mary, as seen at the end of this line where her name begins, though it is hyphenated and the last letter has wrapped to the next line: ማርያ(ም)
