Scribe Josephus Baini
Part of a set, Capp.Sist.502-506
A musical drama in three acts
Misidentified as a Breviary, with 402 folios, in Iter liturgicum italicum. That must refer to another MS
An extremely quiet week this week, with only thirteen manuscripts digitized. With such a small number discerning patterns is more fraught, but the top collections were Barb.lat and Capp.Sist, contributing five each. Two came from Vat.lat, and one from Capp.Sist.Diari.
To the right is f.47r from Vat.lat.11446, a 15th c sammelband. This particular page comes from a section of sermons by an unknown author. Despite it being listed in Baroffio's Iter liturgicum italicum as an Italian(?) Breviary, it is not. The listing noting 402 folios, the volume actually has 165, including flyleaves, makes that clear without diving into the manuscript's contents. This page is written in a peculiar hand, it has elements of several styles, and shaded capitols that echo much earlier Irish manuscripts
At the bottom is a line of music from f.4v of Capp.Sist.440. This is an 18th C copy of standard Gregorian plainchant, in this case a Verse and respond from after the Litany of the BVM, also known as the Litany of Loreto. This particular composition was only added to the Office in 1587, making it a very late composition for plainchant.
