Vatican Manuscripts Added Week 34 of 2020

The Vatican continues on summer vacation this week, with no new manuscripts added into the system. I've taken the time to complete my work on adding in metadata for the Capponiani collection. This 2-part fond was catalogued and has enough information in the Vatican website that I was able to identify almost all of the nearly 300 digitized manuscripts.

One of the interesting manuscripts from that collection is Cappon.203 Antonio Cornazano's Libro dell'arte del danzare, from the second half of the 15th C., one of the five principal sources for 15th Century Italian dance. Cornazano, along with Guglielmo Ebreo (also known as Giovanni Ambrosio post-conversion to Christianity), studied dance with Domenico da Piacenza, the great mid 15th C Italian dancemaster. Between the three of them, they published five manuals on dance, music and courtly comportment. To the right is f.10r, which explains the timing of the different tempi of music, Bassadanza, Quadernaria, Saltarello and Piva (from slowest to fastest).

The bottom border comes from Cappon.218 f.52r. Despite having the form and much of the content of a Book of Hours, this is a more unique personal prayer book.
