Vatican Manuscripts Added Week 25 of 2021

A total of ninteen manuscripts were digitized this week. Included were more of the Vat.gr and Vat.ar fonds that have been in process lately, as well as more works related to Gaetano Marini.

Of particular interest is Borg.lat.763, one of the rare manuscripts in the BAV that was written in the new world. This volume is an illustrated guide to the fruits of Mexico, written by Giuseppe Sincunegu in the diocese of Michaucan. To the right is the last illustration in the manuscript, on f.20r. This depicts two fruiting cacti of the Opuntia family, commonly called Nopales or Prickly Pear cacti.

At the bottom is the ex-libris from the famous monastery of St. Columbanus at Bobbio in Piacenza. This comes from a late 10th C. copy of Gregory the Great's Homilies on Ezekiel, Vat.lat.5754 f.1r. This is a double ex-libris, showing the history of the ownership of the manuscript
