A work on mysticism
For the first section, up to f.57v, cf. Vat.turc.193
dated 1279 AH, compare to Vat.turc.263
Only eighteen manuscripts were added to the online Vatican repositories this week. For the first time since I have been tracking, the majority are not in a Latin script. Eleven manuscripts were added from Vat.turc two from Vat.ar. The only latin contributions came from Barb.lat, with two, and Ott.lat with three. Helpfully, for those of us who cannot read Turkish, there is an excellent catalogue of the Vat.turc collection to be found in Ettore Rossi's Elenco dei Manoscritti Turchi della Biblioteca Vaticana, published in 1953. This covers Turkish manuscripts within the Barbarini, Borgiani, Rossiani, Chigiani, and Vatican fonds.
To the right is the nicely decorated title page from Vat.turc.339, f.1v in the current foliation. The manuscript is a 17th C copy of the 'Ibretnâme (Examples Book) of Lâmiî Çelebi. This is 16th C work of mysticism in the form of exemplary stories.
The border at the bottom is from f.6r of Barb.lat.216, a 14th C medical compendium. This page has the start of a work by Abu Bakr al-Razi.
