Dated Muharram 3, 688 AH (Jan 27, 1289)
Bi-lingual, Coptic and Arabic
Only five manuscripts were added this week to the Vatican archives, two more of the late 17th C song books from Barb.lat, and one each from Vat.ar, Vat.copt and Vat.ind.
To the right is f.11v from Vat.copt.18, a bilingual liturgical manuscript dated to anno martyrum 1247 which converts to 1531 CE. It contains the Office for the evening and morning censing as well the liturgy of St. Basil. For this identification I am entirely reliant on the Hebbelynck and Lantschoot catalogue, digitized and put online through archive.org.
At the bottom is a line of elegant Arabic, written in 1289, from f.82r of Vat.ar.1432. It contains a copy of Ibn al-Baytar's Kitāb al-Jāmiʿ li-Mufradāt al-Adwiya wa-l-Aghdhiya (Compendium on Simple Medicaments and Foods). This is a massive alphabetical pharmacopoeia with more than 1400 entries.
