Due to it being Holy Week, only nineteen manuscripts were digitized by the Vatican this week. The top two contributors were Pal.lat with nine and Ott.lat with seven. The remaining manuscripts were single items from Chigiani, Pal.gr, and Vat.gr. This is the first time that a significant number of the missing Pal.lat volumes have been added in many weeks, hopefully pointing to the completion of that project.
To the right is one of the pre-text pages of Vat.gr.1279 , foliated as p.V. This has the arms of pope Paul IV, who created his nephew, and the books owner, a cardinal. Antonio Carafa, was an active collector of manuscripts in the mid 16th C and the patron of this volume of the works of Athanasius of Alexandria and Symeon Metaphrastes. It was written by Johannes Honorius, official Greek scribe of the Vatican from 1535-1563. Trying to cover all his bases, this page has biblical quotes in Greek and Hebrew.
At the bottom is a line of text from f.1r of Pal.lat.675, mid-15th C copy of De sacrorum consiliorum universalium auctoritate ac potestate. The script is distinctly from the German sphere of influence, and the Heildelberg Catalogue gives a possible source as Vienna.
