Editorial note: It is Jewish custom to remember the departed on the anniversary of their deaths. It is in that spirit that I always try to mention Jean-Baptiste Piggin on the 27th week of the year, the week in which, in 2019, I learned of his passing. Jean-Baptist started the work of tracking BAV manuscripts in February of 2015, and continued it for just over 4 years, until he became too sick to work. Although at this point I have tracked their progress longer than he was able to, I still consider it his project.
And now back to the manuscripts
There were only twelve manuscripts digitized by the Vatican this week, all uploaded on Friday. Of those six came from Vat.lat, five from Ott.lat and only a single volume from Barb.lat.
To the right is f.2r from Vat.lat.13932, which is just four folios from a 12th C volume of Hagiography from Florence. This page has the Vita of St. Zenobius, celebrated on the 25th of May. Not to be confused with the Bishop of Verona and confessor St. Zeno, a contemporary who moved to Italy from Africa.
At the bottom is part of the decorative border from f.Vr of Barb.lat.1605. This is a book of legal decisions from the Rotae Romana, the highest court within the Vatican hirerarchy. It was compiled of decisions from 1609-1612 by Francesco Sacrati.
