Vatican Manuscripts Added Week 23 of 2026

Only eighteen manuscripts were digitized in the past week. As seems to be the current pattern, the vast majority of those, sixteen, were from the Ott.lat collection. The remaining two were from the Vat.gr collection.

To the right is f.1r from Vat.gr.1264, a manuscript written between 1566 and 1567 by Ἰωάννης Μαυρομάτης. The contents are particularly interesting, as it contains A Symposium of the Caesars, a satire on Plato's Symposium featuring the shades of the dead, deified, Emperors of Rome, which was written by Julian II (known as Julian the Apostate).

At the bottom is a line of text, with interlinear scholia, from f.12 of Vat.gr.1294. This is a manuscript of the comedies of Aristophanes, annotated with scholia by Aristophanes of Byzantium.
