Vatican Manuscripts Added Week 41 of 2026

Only six manuscripts were tracked as added this week to the Vatican repository. These consisted of three Barb.lat, two Ott.lat and one from the Capp.Sist. Note that this data is slightly incorrect, it appears that the main page for the Vat.lat fond has gotten so big that the nightly code has been timing out downloading it, silently, for about a week or 2. This means that there are fourteen Vat.lat manuscripts uploaded at some point after October 1 that are being tracked in next weeks (Week 42) listing.

To the right is the first page, f.1r, of Ott.lat.3315, a late 15th or early 16th C copy of Donato Acciaioli's Commentary on Aristotle's Politics, itself based on the translation by Leonardo Bruni (see Ott.lat.1873, Ott.lat.1882, and Ott.lat.1268). At the bottom of this page is the ex-libris of Cardinal Giovanni Salviati, either the original or another early owner.

At the bottom is a line of music from f.18r out of Capp.Sist.355. This manuscript contains a four-part setting of a Mass, and this particular line has a long melisma on the word Amen. So long, in fact, that the scribe had to extend the staff to get the last 2 notes to fit.
