Forty-eight manuscripts added this week to the online repository. In addition to the manuscripts added this week, a new feature on this site has been rolled out, in Beta, Ad-Hoc Reports. These are pages generated by arbitrary SQL queries from the listings, able to collect manuscripts matching almost any criteria onto a single page. The two initial samples are the Fond Capponiani, which has a published catalogue I'm working on incorporating into the metadata, and Shelfmark 1, simply every digitized manuscript with shelfmark "1".

One of the volumes added this week is a collection of sketches of 16th C Rome done by Giovanni Colonna da Tivoli, Vat.lat.7721. It includes drawings of both some of the churches of Rome at that time as well as since-destroyed gardens, such as the Ghinucci Garden on the Quirinal and the Cesi Garden, with it's collection of historic sculpture. The drawings ae a mix of precise diagrams for cornices and such, alongside elegant ink-washed depictions of the decorations. F.75r, to the right, is an example of both styles on the same page. (it has been rotated for ease of reading, the "top" was the outer edge)

The border at the bottom is from the title page of Vat.lat.7753, a collections of epigraphic inscriptions copied from the monuments in the garden of Vincenzo Giustiniani at Bassano Romano. That, now lost, garden was an example of early Baroque garden design, taking the Renaissance forms and stretching them into even more imaginative forms.
